Diving Playa del Carmen is always exciting. Watching sharks, schools of brightly colored fish, and experiencing the vivid colors of corals is a must for any trip to the Riviera Maya. However, as much as we at Pluto Dive don’t like to admit it, there’s more to Playa del Carmen than diving in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Sea and treating yourself to other-worldly views in a cenote. There are ruins to see, beaches to stroll, nightlife, and much more.
Even if you do plan to dive Riviera Maya for most of your trip, your non-diving partner might want to take the following tours:
Xcaret Park: Located just south of Playa del Carmen, this beautiful site has the distinction of being one of the most important ports of the Mayan civilization, an archeological site, and a theme park filled with fun activities and shows. Swim and snorkel in an underground river, see shows of traditional Mayan dances, and much more at this popular park.
Chichen Itza: This archeological site of an important Mayan city is a must for every visitor to the northern Yucatan Peninsula. The site is huge and includes a ball court, pyramids, and many other structures.
Cozumel Island: The famed Caribbean Island of Cozumel is easily visited as a day trip from Playa del Carmen. The island itself is beautiful but the diving around it is spectacular.
Combine your dives with these and other tours at the Mayan Riviera!
