Vacationing in Playa del Carmen puts you at the center of some amazing diving experiences, but your adventures don’t have to stop when you come out of the water. There’s an incredible amount to do all over the Riviera Maya, all within easy reach of Playa del Carmen.
Pluto Dive is a mere fifteen-minute drive from two spectacular parks, perfect for days of sight-seeing and adventure. The first of these is Xcaret Eco Park. Xcaret offers many attractions that take advantage of the area’s natural beauty, including diving in reefs and zoological exhibits featuring sea turtles, jaguars, butterflies, bats, and more. Xcaret also contains Mayan ruins and many attractions based on recreating Mayan culture. These include crafts, folk dances, and a traditional temascal steam bath. Close by Xcaret you will find the Xplor Adventure Park. Here, you can explore beautiful cenotes and flooded caverns underground, raft through jungle trails and caves on the surface, and race through the sky on ziplines!
If you’re looking for a more relaxing sightseeing experience, consider visiting some of the many Mayan ruins scattered across the Yucatán peninsula. The most famous of these is the pyramid at Chichen Itza. The archaeological sites at Tulum and Coba are much closer to Playa del Carmen, and well worth a visit. But Mayan culture is more than ruins—it is alive all around the Yucatan. More than a third of the population here still speaks the Yucatec Maya language. In many of the nearby towns you will find people keeping the traditions of both the ancient Maya and the colonial Spanish cultures alive. The village of Valladolid and the city of Merida are two destinations that are particularly rich with the region’s culture.
There is certainly no shortage of things to do when you come to Playa del Carmen. There are breathtaking sights to be seen, entertainment, adventure—and of course, unforgettable Playa del Carmen diving experiences with Pluto Dive.
