Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Playa Del Carmen is located on the Riviera Maya just under an hour from Cancun Airport. This Fishermen's' village has become the favorite place for dive vacations because of the underwater river system AND rich coral reef that are home to an array of sea creatures and rich coral reefs.
The coral reef in the Riviera Maya is the second longest barrier reef.
There are different levels from 33 feet to 45 feet for diving that allow divers with little experience to experience Caribbean fish like angel fish, parrot fish, stingrays, moral eels and turtles. Some of the deeper sites might require a different level of experience.
There is a mix of things to explore from reefs to wreck diving and of course the famous caverns.

Cavern Diving

You need a normal certification to explore the 15 caverns in Playa del Carmen. You can experience caverns with interesting characteristics and sunlight effects, unusual flora and animals. A certified guiding instructor will escort you through the caverns if you are not familiar with the area

Cave Diving

Cave diving Playa del Carmen is different to diving through the caverns, you need more than just a basic diving certificate.
With the right certification and experience, you can explore the vast cave systems that are regarded to be some of the best in the world. Your guide should be able to provide you with information on the local regulations that cave divers are required to adhere to

There are different conditions in the caves, some are harder some easier for shallow depth to sediment caves that are fragile and require care when you are diving. The caves have lots of interesting stalagmites and stalactite column formations

Diving and Other Activities in Riviera Maya

There are too many good reasons why the Riviera Maya is one of the most well-loved and most visited diving destinations in the world. Scuba divers worldwide make it their dream to be able to go to this part of the ocean.

From different types of diving adventures to the fun activities outside the water that both divers and non-divers can enjoy, there is really just so much to look forward to in the Riviera Maya.

Diving in the Riviera Maya

This wonderful water world is of course known to the world because of the diving experience it offers. Given the excellent condition of the reefs in 20 dive sites, tourists make it a point to try reef diving.

Its clear and warm waters make it the perfect location for deep dives.

Cenotes diving is also something that more experienced divers want to try in the Riviera Maya.

It is the best choice for those who are into technical and deep diving.

Cenotes comes from the Mayan word, "Dzonot." They are actually sinkholes that were formed from the collapsed land of the last ice age.

Now, these have become cave systems and flooded underground rivers.

It is historically known that, the Cenotes were actually believed by the Mayans to be the entrance to the underworld.

It may seem like this adventure is only for experienced divers, but there are highly trained dive guides available.

So for those who want to try this beautiful dive experience, they should be in safe hands.

Aside from reef and deep diving, the Riviera Maya is also a perfect location for wall diving. There is an outer reef from the 3 main reef systems of Puerto Aventuras. This outer reef is a 100-150 feet ( 30-40 meters ) wall, that drops way down to the deep blue ocean.

Facing Riviera Maya is also the world-famous Cozumel which is also well known for wall diving.

What tourists look forward to in the Cozumel is the Museo Subacuático de Arte’s submerged sculptures and the Chankanaab, which is home to sea turtles, manatees and dolphins.

Swimming with the Whales and Turtles

Snorkeling is also a fun activity especially when you get to be with the whale sharks. The feeding and breeding season starts in May and ends in September. This would be the best time to come and visit.

You can also dive with the sea turtles. Riviera Maya's coastline is a nesting area for the loggerhead turtle and the green turtle. If you want to swim and snorkel with the fastest fish in the ocean, you can come during the winter season of the Mexican Caribbean. This is the place they call home during such season.

Fun for Non-Divers Tulum is also a popular place to visit anytime of the year. It is the most popular archaeological site in Riviera Maya.

It used to be an ancient fortress city for the Mayans.

It is built overlooking the ocean, and the beaches are stunning. For non-divers, there are many events in Playa del Carmen. This coastal resort town has many parties.

There are also many shops, restaurants, laid back bars and of course, palm-lined beaches. The Riviera Maya is definitely the place to be anytime of the year.

No one could complain about life on the beach - especially not one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Yet, in the end, we often get the impression that all the beachfront tourist locations are slight variations on the same thing. In the case of Playa del Carmen real estate, however, there are some clearly distinguishing features that help explain why condos in Playa del Carmen have been a world-wide favorite over the past decade. The following are a few of those features:

Top Beaches

When someone decides to buy Playa del Carmen beachfront for sale, it's important to note that they aren't just buying on a beachfront, but they are buying on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. These beaches have soft, white sand and are very wide. The water is a clear turquoise. Both the sand and water are warm and beautiful for walking on. Vacationing next to the beach is one thing; living next to these beaches is another.

Low-Rise Buildings

Playa del Carmen's growth and development have been defined by low-rise buildings. In fact, the building height is limited to 4 stories. Most are 2 or 3. This fact gives the town an image of being just that - a town. Most other successful beachfront tourist locations have their beach lined with high-rises that look like they belong in a city about 10 times the size. This factor makes a big difference for anyone buying Playa del Carmen beachfront for sale; if a buyer invests in a penthouse, they'll have a pleasant view of the beach and the water, without feeling like they're a mile away from your doorstep.

European Lifestyle

The low-rise, small-town image is one part of a larger lifestyle - a provincial lifestyle that many people feel is sort of European. This feeling is increased by the presence of many Italians, their "gelaterias," pizza shops and nice pasta restaurants. Another part of this is the fact that residents can walk everywhere. Living on the beachfront, residents can walk to their favorite restaurants and cafes. They can also walk to the downtown supermarkets (Walmart, etc.) or, if they prefer, to local markets that have very good quality (and very well-priced) fruit, vegetables and seafood, caught locally.

Romantic Atmosphere

Playa del Carmen is ranked among the world's top 10 romantic places, in company with places like Paris. The lifestyle described above really contributes to this. Also, enjoying wine at table directly on the sand of the beach under the light of the moon, with the fresh breeze coming off the Caribbean - what could be more romantic? Even retired couples often feel that living in Playa del Carmen can add a new spark of romance to a decades-old marriage.

Safe & Clean Town

Playa del Carmen is one of the cleanest communities in Mexico (and Latin America, for that matter) not to mention one of the safest; this fact makes Playa del Carmen beachfront for sale one of the best beachfront options close to home. Walking down Fifth Avenue, the main pedestrian street running parallel to the beachfront, anyone will feel this is true - at any time of day or night. The Yucatan Peninsula has always been a much safer and cleaner location that many of the rougher areas up near the U.S. border, which almost seem to be a far-away country.

Excellent Pricing

One of the most important parts of all of this is that you can actually afford nice Playa del Carmen real estate, comfortable living, life's little luxuries, etc.

There really is something distinct about Playa del Carmen. Anyone who's been there can confirm this.

Playa del Carmen is located about an hour south of Cancun in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, and it is one of the most traveled to destinations in the Riviera Maya. Playa del Carmen has its advantages when compared to Cancun one of which is that the prices you usually pay will be a lot smaller and so will the crowds. There is still a lot to do the smaller city that is Playa del Carmen and in fact some will say that it is better located in the middle of it all.

Nightlife

There are plenty of choices for nightlife in Playa del Carmen and though it is smaller than Cancun, more than likely you will not need much more. The nightlife area of the city is located a couple of blocks from the beach with some of the clubs giving you a view of the water. The best places for you to party are PlayaCrawl, Coco Bongo, and Party Playa, but if the nightclub is not your scene then you will find Karaoke spots, bars and many other places to have all the fun once the sun goes down.

Food

In the same place where you will find the nightclubs you will also find great restaurants with menus from every corner in the world. This part of Playa del Carmen feels more like Miami Beach than it does anywhere in Mexico. The good news is that you can also find great spots to chow down some great Mexican food. You can find a few places for "Comida Corrida" which is the Mexican version of fast food, but don't think of a fast food place anywhere else. Comida corrida includes stew, main course and drink all with traditional dishes you could only find in Mexico. Mexican bakeries and regular fast food locations are available.

Shopping

Shopping enthusiasts will feel right at home in Playa del Carmen. There are a lot of places where you can buy souvenirs right by the beach. Most of these shops will take pesos or dollars, but if you want the best prices make sure to pay in pesos as the conversion rate at the stores is not always in your favor. You can also buy souvenirs from street vendors who will usually give you the best overall prices, and you should not be afraid to try to bargain with them. If they see that you are not buying because of the price they will reduce it a bit.

The Beach

The Beach in Playa del Carmen is very similar to those in Cancun but overall they tend to be less crowded. This Mexican beach vacation spot is well kept and if you go out early in the morning you will see the crews cleaning it every morning so that tourists can have the best experience when they visit. The sands are white and fine while the waters are crystal blue. If you visit from May to October the waters are sometimes lukewarm; which is something you cannot say of beaches to the north.
